The story of how me and the Navy came to be.

Hi, I am on my way to becoming a Navy Nuke. I am making this blog because I find it very frustrating the lack on information that is on the web for Navy Nukes, so i am taking it upon myself to write about my own experience for all the nukes in the future or anyone who is interested in navy nuke life.

So to start out my blog I just wanted to share a little info about myself and how I got where I am now. My name is Megan, currently I am 19 years old and in the DEP program for the Nuclear Field program. I was raised in the California Desert, after graduating high school last year I decided to go up to OSU and give college a shot. I was majoring in bioengineering at Oregon and enjoying every minute of college life. I had great friends, I loved school, I played rugby, I had a decent job; all was going well until I got my tuition bill. Finally one day I realized I wasn't going to be able to pay for it. So I did some serious thinking and reevaluated where my life was going. That's when I decided I was going to enlist.

I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was at. I had this job in Oregon where I delivered pastries and bread all over the town I lived in. It was an awesome job; I got to drink coffee, eat muffins, and listen to the AM stereo. I was outside one of my stops, thinking how I was going to go to school next term, when I thought National Guard. All my answers were solved, I was going to join the National Guard. It wasn't one of those things that I slowly weighed out the pros and cons. Nope. I was done with the application at 3 pm that day, inside the recruiters office two hours after, I was telling my mom that I was going to leave for bootcamp that summer, it was a done deal and no one was changing my mind.

So I had met with my national guard recruiter, honestly not knowing much about it. All I knew was my college was going to be free and I got to get a cool camo uniform. When I went into the office the guy seemed not to impressed by my eagerness to leave but he was willing to work with me. We had scheduled my asvab, I was filling out a hard copy of my application and he was looking for a national guard job for me in Oregon. Life was good, I had a plan.

A couple days after all of this happened, I was sitting in the OSU library studying with a group of friends, when I get this call from an unknown number. I answered it and on the other side was a Navy recruiter. He was telling my that he got my number from the National Guard. So i got to talking to him and he was telling me about ROTC. At that point I was set on national guard, I was going to be a medic and there was no room for a debate but I decided to give the guy a chance.

I met up with him outside a coffee shop in my college town. He was all dressed up in his Navy uniform and I am pretty sure I had on a V neck and flip flops. He was telling me all about the ROTC program and how to apply. I must have told him 10 times I wasn't going to apply when he started telling me about the enlisted side. The more I heard the more eager I was to sign the papers, I think at this point you should realize that I am not the most rational person. So he took me back to the Navy office and from that point I owed my loyalty to the United States Navy.
